AMR AG

Remove ethane from the atmosphere to cool the planet by half a degree

Bright minds:

AMR was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Oswald Petersen, based on the scientific work of shareholders and board members Franz Oeste and Renaud de Richter. Together with five other active board members, the group have been steadily working to develop and refine their technology with the goal to cool planet earth and ensure a safe climate for future generations.

AMR works closely with renowned technology partners and engineers, and is an active player in scientific forums concerning atmospheric methane. The organisation combines broad know-how and experience to develop a science-based solution to remove methane in a cost-efficient way, which is safe for humans and nature.

With disruptive ideas:

In recognition that greenhouse gas removal will be a necessary component of climate change mitigation in the near future, AMR AG is developing technology to support nature in removing atmospheric methane.

Methane is the second most common greenhouse gas after CO2 and responsible for about 30% of the warming the planet has experienced since the industrial revolution. With a global warming potential of 28 times that of CO2, methane is extremely potent at trapping heat; it therefore represents the greatest opportunity for atmospheric cooling in the near term.

To cool the planet:

AMR are seeking to accelerate the breakdown of methane in the air through their technology, which they call Enhanced Atmospheric Methane Oxidation or EAMO. This technology makes use of a benign and environmentally abundant substance called ferric chloride to create Iron Salt Aerosol or ISA, which, when dispersed in the air above the oceans in the presence of sunlight, breaks down methane into CO2 and water vapour.

According to their calculations, deployment of their technology at scale, combined with achievement of the goals set out in the Global Methane Pledge, would have a net cooling effect of around 0.5 degree celsius.

Why we support:

We are proud to support AMR and their mission to cool the planet and ensure a safe climate for future generations. With their broad expertise and collaboration with renowned technology partners and engineers, AMR is developing a science-based solution to remove methane in a cost-efficient way that is safe for humans and nature.

Methane, as the second most common greenhouse gas after CO2, is responsible for about 30% of the warming the planet has experienced since the industrial revolution. AMR's technology, called Enhanced Atmospheric Methane Oxidation or EAMO, aims to accelerate the breakdown of methane in the air using a benign and environmentally abundant substance called ferric chloride.

At CarbonFix, we are excited to support such innovative and disruptive ideas that will be necessary components of climate change mitigation in the near future.
