SeaO₂, founded by Rose Sharifian, Ruben Brands, and David Vermaas in 2021, develops Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) technology to extract CO₂ from seawater through electrochemical processes. By reducing the carbon content of ocean water, SeaO₂ addresses one of the planet’s largest CO₂ reservoirs. A €2 million funding round is enabling the construction of their pilot plant, slated to remove 250 tons of CO₂ annually by 2025.
