About this project

SGE (Sustainable Green Energy) aim to make carbon capture economically viable through innovative thermodynamic processes that require no external chemicals or refrigerants. SGE has created a new technology that captures CO2 from the air as a bonus waste product of a system that cools buildings and industries.

The technology takes advantage of the fact that CO2 becomes liquid much more easily than other gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. The system compresses and cools air until only the CO2 turns into liquid and then sinks to the bottom and gets separated out. The other gases are released as cold, pressurized air that can be used for cooling buildings or industrial processes.

SGE’s innovation represents a breakthrough in cooling and refrigeration because it has significantly lower installation costs and energy consumption than existing systems, consuming only 0.2kW per ton of refrigerant compared to traditional systems.

CarbonFix have funded SGE to help them launch their first pilot for carbon capture and industrial cooling in Egypt. In addition to our early support, we hope that Egypt’s upcoming carbon tax implementation will further spur commercial interest.
